2017 BURLY Chardonnay
Tasting Notes
Our 2017 Burly Chardonnay is sourced from a Carneros AVA vineyard and produces an intense wine with aromas of pineapple and oak. At first swirl, oak and vanilla with a touch of butter leap from the glass. The palate has rich flavors of lemon and melon which are supported by elegant minerality and lively acidity. The sur lie aging rounds out this wine, creating a broad mid palate and a smooth lingering finish.
Making the Wine
The grapes were picked early in the morning and came in cold. The grapes were pressed into new oak barrels and cold fermented by native yeast. The fermentation took 45 days at 65 F. The wine was then aged sur lie for 16 months.

Weather
The year 2017 began with abundant rainfall. Spring weather was mild, resulting in extended flowering in some areas with little shatter. Vines were vigorous thanks to the winter rains. Three heat events, including one over Labor Day weekend, kicked harvest into high gear, dehydrating some grapes by early September. This is when we picked.
